Phillippa ~ Born the daughter of a travel editor for a regional newspaper, my earliest memories are of being hauled unceremoniously around the world, and feeling less impressed by the freedoms of travel than I am now!In a bid for stability I used my degree in Art and Education to launch a career teaching students with severe learning difficulties but, after my own children left home, the nomadic lure drew me again... A narrowboat-home was a natural place for me to be, and the travel writing that followed was bound to happen.
Martine ~ I speak three languages and have the advantage of being able to ask for "beer and cream cake" in seven!Born in beautiful County Cork in Ireland, I inherited a Celtic wanderlust and, after graduating with a degree in Spanish and French from King's College in London, I lived in Spain and worked in the travel industry for most of my early career. Swapping everything for life on a narrowboat, and walking towpaths with my camera, I was saved from the '9 to 5' which never suited my outdoor head.
The boat years on Narrowboat 'Bhaile (Gaelic for 'home')
| We hand built an eco-friendly narrowboat-home and set off to find the 'good life' on the waterways... Travelling inland Britain, in slow motion, with our four enduring boat cats, we found our place in the waterways community and survived events of near sinking, starvation and storm! | |

| The canalbagging years | |
| Our current challenge is to walk every canal towpath in Britain ~ Over 2,000 miles of magnificent walking, with plenty of stops for cheese sandwiches (cake for Martine) and real ale from waterside pubs! | |
